The Ottawa Senators took both of their split squad games against the Toronto Maple Leafs Wednesday, edging their provincial rivals 4-3 in a shootout on the road in Toronto and topping them 3-2 at home. Bobby Ryan scored twice to lead the Ottawa Senators to a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs in pre-season action Wednesday night. It was a split squad game as the two teams were also playing in Toronto. Matt Puempel scored a power-play goal and Craig Anderson stopped 20 shots for the Senators. Sam Carrick and Morgan Rielly scored for the Leafs. Antoine Bibeau allowed two goals on 18 shots while Cal Heeter, who came in midway through the second, allowed one goal on 17 shots. Ottawa made it 3-1 on Ryans second goal of the game early in the third. Ryan tipped a Patrick Mullen point shot that Heeter couldnt handle. With 26 seconds remaining Rielly made it 3-2 as he beat Anderson high stick side. The Leafs nearly tied the game in the dying seconds when Daniel Winnick hit the post. After a scoreless first the Senators jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the Leafs made it 2-1 on Carricks goal midway through the period. Ryan opened the scoring at the six-minute mark, beating Bibeau shortside. Then Puempel, who continues to make a good impression, tipped an Erik Karlsson point shot and then grabbed his own rebound to make it 2-0 to the delight of the 15,865 on hand. Carrick cut the lead in half as he was able to beat Anderson from in close. Shots were 11-11 after the first period, but Ottawa had the better chances -- specifically Ryan. Ryan had two solid chances, but it was the second of the two that was most frustrating for Ryan as he took a great pass from Clarke MacArthur and then put the shot right in Bibeaus chest. Meanwhile in Toronto, or once it was all good for a Maple Leafs goaltender that they got badly outshot. The Leafs gave up 18 shots and put nine on net in James Reimers half of his pre-season debut, and Reimer stopped all of them. Even after the Ottawa Senators came back to win 4-3 in a shootout, the most positive result of the split-squad game at Air Canada Centre on Wednesday night was Reimers strong performance. "Exhibitions all about getting ready," Reimer said. "Its all about shaking off the rust and getting prepared. The more shots, the more work. Obviously it pays off more when the season starts." Reimer, whose struggles played a role in an eight-game losing streak late last season that destroyed Torontos playoff chances, got a nice round of applause from the crowd when shown on video screens after working a perfect 30 minutes 14 seconds. "Ive said it a million times: The fans here are unbelievable, and I love playing in this city and I love playing in front of them," Reimer said. "Obviously to get a little love, its great." The Leafs led 2-0 on goals by Nazem Kadri and Jake Gardiner (on the power play) when Reimer gave way to Christopher Gibson. Shane Prince scored for the Senators, and James van Riemsdyk answered for Toronto. Alex Chiasson (short-handed) and Ryan Dzingel scored for Ottawa to force overtime, and Milan Michalek had the shootout winner. Robin Lehner played the entire night and stopped 24 of the 27 shots he faced. The Leafs were outshot 35-27 overall. "We had chances," said Leafs rookie William Nylander, who said he felt calmer with the puck in his second pre-season game. "We had chances to win the game." The Senators also won the game between the teams at Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa thanks to two goals by Bobby Ryan. The final score was 3-2, but Daniel Winnik had a chance to tie it in the final seconds when he hit the post. Before there was shootout drama in Toronto, Reimer shut the door in his first work in a Leafs uniform since last seasons collapse. The 26-year-old, who signed a two-year deal over the summer as a restricted free agent, has said in training camp he intends to compete with Jonathan Bernier for the No. 1 job. Coach Randy Carlyle, who has continued to call Bernier and Reimer "1A and 1B" goaltenders, said after exhibition glimpses of each that "the evaluation will continue on Friday night." The Leafs expect to have another round of cuts before taking the ice Friday night at the Buffalo Sabres, when they could have injured forwards Tyler Bozak and David Clarkson in the lineup. By then, the Leafs could be ready to give a goaltender a full games worth of action. But Reimer didnt mind easing in to the pre-season. "You start with the half-game, its just a nice baby step into getting things going," Reimer said. "Obviously the biggest part of goaltending is being mentally focused for 60 minutes and thats a task in itself, let alone not doing it for six months. "When you can get in there and kind of get your rhythm and play a half-game to start, its something I prefer." Notes -- Bobby Ryan, Chris Neil and Erik Karlsson all wore an "A" for the Senators. Daniel Winnik, Colton Orr and Morgan Rielly wore the "A" for the Leafs. Injured Leafs forwards Tyler Bozak and David Clarkson practised Wednesday and could play Friday at the Buffalo Sabres. ... Neither is 16-year-old Lydia Ko. Lee shot a 5-under 67 on Friday in the JTBC Founders Cup to take a two-stroke lead over Ko into the weekend. The 23-year-old South Korean played the final eight holes in 5 under, making an eagle and three birdies to reach 13-under 131 at Desert Ridges Wildfire Golf Club. "I played a little boring on the front nine, so I went more aggressive on the back nine and it worked well," Lee said. "So, now I plan on being aggressive the rest of the week." Ko, the Canadian Womens Open winner as an amateur the last two years, shot 66. The first-year pro played a late six-hole stretch in 6 under with an eagle and four birdies. "I just gave myself more opportunities on the back nine," Ko said. Lee is making her third start in her rookie season on the LPGA Tour after winning three times on the Korean LPGA. In her first two events, she tied for 33rd in the Bahamas and tied for 25th in the Womens Australian Open. "I feel more comfortable because here the fairways are bigger," Lee said. "My driver shots play better here." She holed a 35-foot birdie putt on the par-4 13th, saved par on the par-3 14th with a 20-footer, and hit a hybrid from 220 yards to 12 feet to set up the eagle on the par-5 15th. "All this week, hybrids have not worked for me, so I felt very fortunate," Lee said. She also birdied the par-4 18th, hitting a 9-iron to 2 feet. Born in South Korea and raised in New Zealand, Ko won the Swinging Skirts World Ladies Masters in December in Thailand in her second start after turning pro in October. She has five victories in professional events, also winning in Australia and New Zealand. Ko began her back-nine run with birdies on Nos. 12 and 13, eagled the 15th and birdied Nos. 16 and 17. After going hungry on the course in the first round, she stocked up Friday. "I had a protein bar and like a prottein jelly and theres always a peanut butter sandwich in there," Ko said.dddddddddddd "I actually noticed that it was in my bag yesterday, but I didnt find it, so it was actually more done." Sun Young Yoo was third at 10 under after a bogey-free 65, matching the best round of the day. The 2012 Kraft Nabisco winner played the back nine in 5-under 31. "I was more patient today," Yoo said. "Overall, everything was working very well." Top-ranked Inbee Park was 9 under along with Bahamas winner Jessica Korda, Chella Choi and So Yeon Ryu. Park, playing alongside Ko and Korda, also eagled No. 15 in her 69. "I left a lot of putts out there," Park said. Korda and Choi shot 66, and Ryu had a 67. Michelle Wie topped the group at 8 under, following her opening 66 with a 70. She had four straight birdies in the middle of the round to take the lead at 10 under, then bogeyed the par-5 fifth -- her 14th hole of the day -- after hitting over the green from a greenside bunker. "I thought I hit a really good bunker shot and I flew it 15 yards past the green," Wie said. "So, that was a good one. ... It went over everyones head." She also dropped a stroke on the par-4 ninth. "All day today I just felt like I could have shot a lot more under par," Wie said. Defending champion Stacy Lewis, 2011 winner Karrie Webb, and Morgan Pressel were 7 under. Lewis and Webb shot 71, and Pressel followed her opening 65 with a 72. After playing the first 11 holes Thursday in 9 under, Pressel was 2 over on the next 25. DIVOTS: Yani Tseng, the 2012 winner, missed the cut with rounds of 71 and 74. The 15-time tour champion is winless in 46 events since the 2012 Kia Classic, a week after her Founders Cup victory. She has dropped from first to 45th in the world in a year. ... Cheyenne Woods, Tiger Woods niece, also failed to advance in her hometown event, shooting 71-73.
