ARLINGTON, Texas -- Kyle Seager loves playing at Texas. Not so much for the rest of the Seattle Mariners. This time, everyone is having a nice time in the Lone Star State. Seager hit a two-run homer in the 10th inning, and the Mariners won consecutive games at Rangers Ballpark for the first time in more than a year with a 4-2 victory on Wednesday night. Seager was mired in a 1-for-19 skid coming into the series, but he has five hits in the first two games against the Rangers, who dropped to 30-14 at home against Seattle since 2009. The third baseman is a .361 hitter with four homers and 11 RBIs in 20 career games at Texas. Michael Saunders walked on a full-count pitch with two out before Seager connected against Robbie Ross (4-2) for his third hit of the game. Seagers 12th homer landed in the first row of seats in right field. "I knew I hit it pretty good, but it didnt really get too high for me," Seager said. "I was hoping. Lets put it that way." Charlie Furbush (2-4) pitched 1 2-3 scoreless innings for the win, and Tom Wilhelmsen was perfect in the 10th for his 17th save in 22 chances. The Mariners last won two straight in Texas on May 29-30, 2012, when they took the last two of a three-game series. Seattle will go for its first sweep in Texas since 2002 on Thursday night. "Its always good to win within your division," manager Eric Wedge said. "Its always better to do that on the road within your division. The guys have done a nice job the last couple of nights." David Murphy and Ian Kinsler homered in the fifth inning against Felix Hernandez, giving Texas a 2-1 lead. The leadoff shot by Murphy ended a four-game streak without a homer for the Rangers, their longest in more than two years. It also was the first homer for Murphy since June 9, and his first RBI since June 11. Kinsler, who spent nearly a month on the disabled list with a rib fracture, sent the 11th pitch of his at-bat against Hernandez a few rows deep in left field for his first homer since May 8. "Theyre pretty tough," Hernandez said. "Those two homers, I just fell behind against Murphy ... and Kinsler put in a great at-bat. I just missed my location and he hit it out of the ballpark." The Mariners pulled even with a run in the sixth, ending Derek Hollands night with a 37-pitch inning that included three straight full counts. The last of the three full counts came against Mike Zunino, who battled back from an 0-2 count for a tying infield single on a hopper that Adrian Beltre couldnt handle behind the bag at third. Raul Ibanez and Kendrys Morales opened the inning with singles, and Justin Smoak walked with one out, also after falling behind 0-2. Dustin Ackley struck out on a full count before Zuninos hit brought home Ibanez. "It was frustrating on my part," Holland said. "I was 0-2 and I let that get away from me. Thats upsetting to me. I had him put away and I let him get away." Texas centre fielder Leonys Martin went 0 for 4 to end the longest active hitting streak in the majors at 15 games. The Rangers fell to 0-3 in extra innings at home and were held to two runs for the second straight game a few hours after announcing they had agreed to a minor league deal with 41-year-old slugger Manny Ramirez, acknowledging their need for a right-handed power bat. "I think my offence last night got shut down by (Joe) Saunders," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "I think today it was pitching again. Theres nothing wrong with my offence. Well just continue to battle and see where it goes." Holland, making his first outing since a two-hit shutout in a 2-0 win at Yankee Stadium, gave up a leadoff home run to Jason Bay on the fourth pitch of the game. The Mariners had runners at first and third with no outs in the second after singles by Seager and Smoak, but Holland got a shallow fly ball from Dustin Ackley that forced Seager to hold up after going a third of the way down the line. Holland then struck out Zunino and got Brad Miller on a fly ball to centre. Holland struck out 10 and had seven hits and two walks on his line. Hernandez gave up four extra-base hits, matching the Texas total from its previous four games combined. Besides the homers from Murphy and Kinsler, Nelson Cruz doubled with two outs in the first and Beltre had a leadoff double that was followed by three straight outs in the sixth. Elvis Andrus grounded into an inning-ending double play with two on in the seventh to wrap up the night for Hernandez, who gave up seven hits and struck out seven in his third straight no-decision. "It was not bad," Hernandez said. "I think last year I didnt pitch here, but today I was just trying to make good pitches. In this ballpark when the ball flies, I just try to keep the ball down and make good pitches." NOTES: Rangers RHP Alexi Ogando came through a bullpen session Wednesday with no setbacks and will make a rehab start Saturday at Round Rock. He likely will make at least two rehab starts. ... Halak, 28, split his eighth NHL seasons between the St. Louis Blues, Buffalo Sabres and Washington Capitals, compiling a 29-13-7 record in 52 games.(SportsNetwork.com) - With the way the St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates battled for the National League Central crown, its only fitting that their National League Division Series would come down to a decisive fifth game. St. Louis tries to get back into the NLCS for the third straight year, while the Pirates target their first postseason series win since 1979, as the divisional foes play a winner take all showdown at Busch Stadium. "You live for those situations," Pittsburgh star Andrew McCutchen said. "This is the game that we play. They didnt say it was going to be easy getting here to where we are. Weve done a good job of getting in this position. We live for all those moments. Anything can happen in this game." On Wednesday, though, the Cards turn to their ace in Adam Wainwright, who tied for the NL lead with 19 wins and was marvelous in his Game 1 start versus the Pirates, as he allowed just one run and struck out nine in seven innings. "Were always excited to see Adam Wainwright on the mound," Cards manager Mike Matheny said after the Cardinals 2-1 win over the Pirates in Game 4 on Monday. "Hes the ace of our staff. These guys, they get a lot of energy every time he has the mound." Wainwright has won his last five decisions, posting a 1.71 ERA (eight earned runs in 42 innings) over that stretch. Hes also 3-0 with a 1.09 ERA in three postseason starts (seven appearances) in St. Louis. "Its the biggest game of the year, isnt it? Thats what I always tell these guys," Wainwright said. "Every start of mine is the biggest game of the year. Its a big-time game against a good opponent, and Im looking forward to doing it." While it may have been a no-brainer that Wainwright would be taking the hill for St. Louis, Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle had a decision to make. He could have gone with Game 1 starter A.J. Burnett, who was pounded for seven runs in two-plus innings, or turn to rookie Gerrit Cole, who gave up one run in six innings to win Game 2. In the end, it wasnt really a choice, as Hurdle went with the 23-year-old righty Cole. "We have one game to win," said Hurdle. "As Ive done and Ive challenged the guys to do, we need to do the best we can to win that next game. I believe that matchup is the best we can do to beat the Cardinals in Game 5." Cole was as good as any pitcher in baseball down the stretch, going 4-0 over his final five starts, while pitching to a 1.69 ERA. He carried that innto the postseason and was more than effective versus the Cardinals on Friday, retiring 11 in a row at one point.dddddddddddd "Its obviously a great opportunity for me to go out there and give my team a chance to win," Cole said. "This is obviously an exciting time, a high- pressure situation, and this is what you prepare for all year. This is why you work out in the offseason, for moments like this, to be mentally and physically ready to go. Its extremely exciting and I cant wait." The Pirates can only hope that Cole delivers the way St. Louis rookie Michael Wacha did in Game 4, as he took a no-hitter into the eighth inning and helped the Cards stave off elimination. "We did a lot of gushing about him before we even got him out there today, and I think everybody sees why," Matheny said. "I dont know if you can put a kid in a tougher spot. He came out and just made pitches all day long. Hes just got a knack of getting up there and [being] very business-like getting the job done." The Cardinals, who received an MLB-best 36 victories from rookie hurlers en route to the NL Central title, are now 7-1 in postseason elimination games over the past three years. "I think you take high-talent and high-character people that are motivated and support each other, and they dont give up. Thats a tough combination," said Matheny of his team. "Its just an honor to watch them do the thing day-in and day-out." St. Louis survived despite managing just three hits, but one was a two-run homer from Matt Holliday off Pittsburgh starter Charlie Morton that broke a scoreless deadlock in the top of the sixth. Holliday had a single earlier in the contest. Morton (0-1) lasted 5 2/3 innings, surrendering all three hits and walking four. "Charlie pitched extremely well," Hurdle said. "I think the cowboys say, he drew a tough bull today." Pedro Alvarez homered in Mondays loss and is the first Pirate to drive in runs his first five postseason games, and the first since Willie Stargell in 1979 to hit at least three homers in one postseason. Since the beginning of the 2012 season and including these playoffs, Alvarez has crushed Cardinals pitching to the tune of 12 homers and 37 RBI. Pittsburgh won the season series, 10-9, but was just 3-6 in St. Louis. "Weve played them close," Hurdle said. "It has been a very respectful, challenged series." Wednesdays winner will play Los Angeles on Friday in Game 1 of the NLCS.
